Unable to setup Office 365 mail account on Outlook 2016
Hi Guys,
Having an effect with function 365 and outlook 2016. This user has had his email setup on outlook 2022 on another PC previously. Purchase a new pc, downloaded role habitation and business 2022 from office 365 subscription. Started outlook and entered the electronic mail, error message was "something went wrong and outlook couldn't set upward your account. please effort again. if the problem continues, contact your email administrator." Setup in mail app manually and got prompted for credentials. Re-entered the credentials and press OK and information technology keeps asking for credentials. Got a hold of Microsoft back up and they walked me through removing everything manually that was part 2022 related on the PC including registry entries and re-installed part again, and even so had the same issue afterward. Also this is on windows 10 home.
Thanks.

I seem to take the same outcome.
Outlook worked fine, I reinstalled windows. And at present I can't set up that one account ( 365 Function Business relationship ).
I tried disabling IPV6 :
ane. Disabled by downloading the disable IPV6 link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/help/929852/how-to-disable-ipv6-or-its-components-in-windows
two. Tried outlook setup, no luck.
3. Rebooted.
four. Tried once again to gear up up outlook, no luck.
I recollect when I originally got it to work I was running Windows Anniversary update prior to setting up Outlook and updated to creators after.I'm running the creators 1703 version of Win10 and can't get information technology to work.
I've as well tried the steps to a higher place is outlook prophylactic fashion.

I'thousand still having a hard fourth dimension getting this to work...
I successfuly set up the e-mail on this same PC ( before reinstalling the OS ) and on another PC which is as well running Win ten.

Disabling IPV6 did not work for me, only I have found the resolution. Under the Account Settings sub-menu, select 'Manage Profiles' instead of 'Business relationship Settings'. You then get a Mail Setup window which is of the format of the earlier versions of Outlook. Just select 'E-mail Accounts' and you can ready up a new account only like you used to in earlier versions of Outlook. It worked for me 1st fourth dimension. Hope this helps...I spent several hours searching forums and trying different things before I institute this.

MY problem is that I had an office 365 account ready, the admins have done a migration and thanks to microsoft'southward robust design, i had to delete and try re-setup my account again. Upon setting up my account I go the same error.
All non essential protocals take already been disabled. I suspect DNS issues or firewalling or maybe something as sinister every bit all that.
Another win for Microsoft here.

I take been struggling with this same issue for many weeks and I found my solution.
Symptom: Can't setup outlook 2022 to get my office365 email. I get the "something went wrong message." This trouble occurred on several computers with role 2022 on different networks and operating systems. However, office365 works fine from webmail, iPhone, android, and previous versions of outlook. And so WTF!
I discovered that outlook 2022 is quite grumpy and so you must follow NEW protocol.
ane. Uninstall all older versions of office and reboot.
two. In Control Panel, Mail (Outlook 2016), delete all profiles and close it.
3. Don't apply the Mail(Outlook 2016) in control panel to setup the new account, it volition not work.
4. Y'all must use the Outlook setup wizard that will showtime when yous open outlook for the first time with no profiles. Insert email address and countersign.
5. That'southward it.
Note: Having worked with Exchange and outlook for a very long time I find that this change was not intuitive and does not comply with standard processes maintained by Microsoft for a decade. You lot should exist able to use the Mail control panel tool to set this up as we have always washed. I find that this is definitely a bug in Outlook 2016. I hope this helps others that were just a frustrated as me.

Further to this, I have solved my outcome past remove all outlook credentials in windows credential director. Due to migration, the account is the same and windows in all information technology's wisdom keeps trying to connect to the new account with the one-time account credentials. The business relationship ID is unlike with the new account (auto generated?)
Afterward deleting all credentials, I was able to add the business relationship within seconds.

My resolution was simpler only far from obvious...
When information technology offers you the choice to "Change Account Type" (if I call up correctly), click "Google" instead of 365. This takes you to a dialog box where you can manually configure servers, ports, etc. Just have the defaults then enter your Function 365 password when prompted. That got my Part 365 account up and running in Outlook.

But configuring like that will set up the account equally IMAP right?

Hey Guys,
I was able to get around it if you were to setup one mailbox with the Microsoft tool. Won't work if you need to setup a 2d mailbox in the same profile.

The "Stealth Google Mail service" Setup worked for my state of affairs, as well.
It's a pretty straightforward approach - simply take the default configuration options (as they already reflect appropriate Office 365 Server and Port settings) and insert your password when prompted. I can speculate as to WHY this works, but all that matters - I didn't take to overhaul my Windows 10 to find out it's an Outlook 2022 consequence. Microsoft - please fine tune the setup of 365 Exchange services with the preferred/recommended Microsoft Postal service Client.
Thank you All!

That definitely works, but represents some serious fourth dimension if y'all have multiple mail accounts of varying types. It works, but it IS work (in this circumstance).

I had the aforementioned upshot. Finally fixed information technology with this regedit script from Office 365 back up:
Windows Registry Editor Version five.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\AutoDiscover]
"ExcludeHttpsRootDomain"=dword:00000001
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Role\sixteen.0\Outlook\AutoDiscover]
"ExcludeHttpsAutoDiscoverDomain"=dword:00000001

If you lot are having issues with Outlook taking your password AND as well getting an error if you try to open the Credential Manager like nosotros did, yous should endeavor this: http://www.mkblog.co.uk/credential-managing director-fault-0x80090345/
"Locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Cryptography\Protect\Providers\df9d8cd0-1501-11d1-8c7a-00c04fc297eb, created a new registry DWORD value, named ProtectionPolicy, and give information technology a value 1. "
Equally presently as we added the registry key and rebooted, Outlook and the Credential Manager functioned correctly.

I had this problem and also could non ready upwardly a PPTP VPN connection. Started looking into the VPN connection mistake ( The reckoner must be trusted for delegation and the electric current user account must be configured to permit delegation. ) and ran across this. Practical it and it fixed the VPN outcome and just for kicks tried the Outlook fix again and it went through immediately.
"To piece of work around this trouble, gear up the value of the ProtectionPolicy registry entry to 1 to enable local backup of the MasterKey instead of requiring a RWDC in the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Cryptography\Protect\Providers\df9d8cd0-1501-11d1-8c7a-00c04fc297eb
i.e. Correct Click, create new Dword (32bit) Value, proper name it 'ProtectionPolicy' then edit it to the value of i. Solves the issue immediately, non restart required.

I've just setup ten new Windows 10 laptops for my users. Nosotros take an AD Domain but use Office 365 Education for electronic mail etc. Its nice to utilise Outlook for offline work but this is so frustrating. None of the Office 2022 setups desire to connect to their Office 365 email. Keeps saying "an encrypted connectedness to your mail server is not bachelor". I've spent hours looking for a solution. Come on MS this should work! I feel its i arm of MS non talking to another. Who wins? I retrieve the Cloud version is going to, that's the way its going - "e'er on". Unless someone has a definitive respond?

Hullo Everyone,
None of these suggested fixes actually stock-still my problem.
The problem was credential related just not the control panel credential manager.
It was in the Windows 10, 'Change Account Settings" section under "Access Work or School"
When you add a new Office 365 account as office of the newer Outlook 2022 Account Wizard information technology asks if you want to add this business relationship to the estimator or something to that result. Along with calculation the credentials to control console Credential Manager information technology too adds the account to the "Admission Work or Schoolhouse" section as mentioned.Removing the account from there and trying to add the account to Outlook is what stock-still the issue for me!
Hope that helps someone else. I spent hours on this uninstalling Office, setting registry keys, etc.
For me the difference between a new profile and and then-called "corrupted profile" is e'er a unproblematic registry setting or deleting an app specific setting. However sometimes it is just easier and quicker to start a fresh contour.
All-time of luck to everyone.

1. Close the outlook
2. Go to control Panel
3. open up Mail (Microsoft Outlook 2016)
4. go to E-mail Accounts
5. create a new account. I hope this will piece of work.

I found a solution by post-obit steps for new users:
1) Setup outlook email by any outlook/Hotmail account. it will configure easily.
two) become to account setting by clicking "file"
3) click on business relationship setting and get to mange profile- a new dialogue box will open up.
4) Click on click accounts- business relationship setting dialogue box will open.
five) Click on new - former e-mail configuration dialogue box will open up.
At present easily configure your whatsoever e-mail----- cheer upward.

In our case the issue started when we turned on web hosting using cPanel. By default the cPanel application redirects the autodiscover request from Outlook and points it to your website domain rather than to the Part 365 autodiscover. The fix is uncomplicated log into your cPanel management panel and become to MX Settings. Change the setting from
"Local Mail service Exchanger" to "Remote Mail Exchanger" click on the "Change" push button and you should be good to go.To test to encounter if this is your issue you can download the "Fix Outlook and Office 365 bug with Microsoft Back up and Recovery Assistant for Office 365" tool and run it.
https://diagnostics.part.com/#/Download?env=OfficePortal
If y'all accept this issue it volition point that your Autodiscover is getting bad information. Look at the URL and information technology's probably pointed to your https://domain.com rather than autodiscover.outlook.com

If the registry hacks for ExcludeHttpsAutoDiscoverDomain fix your problem, you probably take the issue that @DanCreedican highlighted - your web hosting provider is answering autodiscover requests on https:/
/ mydomain.com:443/ autodiscover/ autodiscover.xml before the SRV record pointing to Microsoft can respond them. Outlook doesn't query the SRV autodiscover record because the first attempts on https and http worked, just returned artificial results, thereby telling yous "Something went wrong". The SRV record is technically a fallback autodiscover method, and isn't used unless http and https requests fail. The registry hacks eliminate these discovery methods from the sequence thereby forcing Outlook to jump to the SRV record. This is a valid workaround, but the proper solution is to fix you lot configuration at the spider web hosting provider. Dan mentioned downloading a tool, but Microsoft now provides a great online tool to diagnose autodiscover here:

/ www.testconnectivity.microsoft.com You lot tin can read more about the technical bending here:

I was having aforementioned issue; and rather embarrassingly it was because I was using the account password rather than the 'app' password that I set in O365 for administrators, worth checking, im assuming a lot of yous guys have ambassador roles :)

I tried the in a higher place tricks, disabling ipv6 and the registry trick. Uninstalling and reinstalling. Creating a new outlook profile... no good on any of them. The one thing that did it for me was removing the user's profile completely, via Organisation > Avant-garde organization settings. This happened during a migration and turns out, I should've left the AppData folder in identify. Acquired 2 hours of headaches. New windows contour and works similar a charm.

Weird, but this worked for me likewise. I was able to connect as an Part 365 client. If you don't practise something like this, you accept no option simply to connect via IMAP, and while IMAP will piece of work for email, y'all don't get the total functionality of Microsoft Exchange, like contacts. Exist sure to reboot after the registry change.

The registry changes recommended by jeffwest2 worked for me too. I was able to connect as an Part 365 client. If you don't do something like this, you accept no choice but to connect via IMAP, and while IMAP will work for email, you don't get the full functionality of Microsoft Exchange, similar contacts. I learned the Google Selection but made the inbox connect via IMAP vs. Office 365 - which didn't actually resolve my need (as information technology must be Commutation/Office 365 based). I found if I logged in with a unlike Windows Profile - I could successfully create the inbox/business relationship without issue. So I had to perform a new user profile creation process - Pain, just it worked.

Thanks everyone. My system ended up getting a preview build and when I tried to remove it it uninstalled all of my apps. My prepare was...
- Remove every single windows credential from Credential Managing director
- I made a .reg file from Jeff West's post and ran that.
Removing IPV6 is absolutely positively, no style in a million years the best answer to this sometime thread...

The Google selection worked for me, likewise. VERY odd. Nothing else worked.
Did y'all remove all of the entries in credential manager? If not, it could exist that it is treating the creds yous entered via the google wizard equally different (Correct, not corrupt) from the corrupt ones from the Part 365 wizard.

Here's what I did on Windows ten, v1809, domain joined computer, using Advertizement login, not Microsoft login, O365 account has 2-factor auth (Probably the issue):
- Uninstall Office 2022 (installed from Office 365)
- Remove any Outlook or Role credentials from Credential Manager
- Reinstall Office 2022 (from Office 365)
- Open Outlook start (before any other Office apps)
- Setup the Office 365 electronic mail business relationship using the Application password (leftover from 2-gene auth setup)
thumb_up thumb_down
-
I believe my event was 2FA. I apply the MSFT Authenticator for my M365 account.
I went to https://business relationship.activedirectory.windowsazure.com/AppPasswords.aspx and setup an app password.
For some reason, the newer O365 version of Outlook doesn't through the standard account sign-in that triggers the 2FA process. It's actually abrasive that they haven't integrated 2FA more tightly.
I don't retrieve whatever of the other solutions volition help if you take 2FA setup.

Exact same symptoms here...trouble and set up was related to the windows 10 congenital in 'mail' app. Users account was set up using this app and apparently it was blocking o365. I deleted the business relationship from the 'mail service' app and the o365 automobile fix started working immediately.
